Many parents find food issues with their children can be very stressful. As parents we know it is important to establish healthy eating patterns without children to avoid obesity and type difficulties later in life. However some young children can be very fussy eaters and it can be difficult to get them to eat healthy food.
Here are some suggestions to him courage your child to eat
Make eating fun toddlers enjoy color. Use colorful foods that they can pick up with their fingers. For example, carrot sticks and apples, cheese, grapes can be more appealing than more traditional meals.
Keep on trying to get your child to eat.
Sometimes it can take up to 10 times before a young child will accept food. Unfortunately parents often give up trying on the fourth or fifth try. Perseverance is important but at the same time not allowing eating to be a form of control.
Set a good example
Children learn more from what you do than what you say. As a parent, model eating a wide variety of different foods and don’t just stick to a narrow selection.
Explain to your young child the importance of healthy eating. Explain to them that by eating healthy food they will grow up to be big and strong.
Children will eat when they are hungry. Let mealtimes be fun and lighthearted with a wide variety of food options for your child. Many children will eat snacks throughout the day and it is surprising how much food this all adds up to.
Try not to be worried about your child’s eating habits. Make mealtimes relaxed and remember that children have a good idea of their hunger and fullness levels
